Sa'ie

Definition of Sa’i Linguistically, the word is derived from the Arabic verb Sa’a (Arabic: سعى) which means “to walk”, “to strive” or “to pursue”. Its technical meaning is to walk between Safa and Marwa in a particular manner a total of seven times. Allah says in the Quran: إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِن شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ  فَمَنْ حَجَّ الْبَيْتَ أَوِ اعْتَمَرَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ أَن يَطَّوَّفَ بِهِمَا  وَمَن تَطَوَّعَ خَيْرًا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ شَاكِرٌ عَلِيمٌ Indeed, Safa and Marwa are among the symbols of Allah. So, whoever makes Hajj to the House or performs Umrah – there is no blame upon him for walking between them. And whoever volunteers good – then indeed, Allah is appreciative and knowing. [Surah al-Baqarah, 2:158] After starting the first lap at Safa, it must end at Marwa and the next lap must begin at Marwa and end at Safa, until seven laps are completed. The entire distance between Safa and Marwa must be traversed, a distance of 450 metres (1,480 ft), with the seven laps
